Paddocks Market - Milnerton, Cape Town
Posted by Sam Parenzee on Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Since new years weekend 2010 I have been trading every Saturday and occasional Sundays at the Paddocks Market inside of the Paddocks Mall in Milnerton. What an experience!!!
Selling cupcakes, brownies, chocolate cake, carrot cake, yoghurt cakes and other treats my little business has gone from strength to strength. My cakes get the hightest praise from the oldest most experienced confectioner (He was 78) to the little 4 year old licking icing from his cupcake Mom just bought. Every week I improved the menu and every week people stand at my table in awe of the beautiful cupcakes lol. Nobody leaves without their cake beautifully packaged. And those who leave buying Brownies until 3pm (end of market day) leave in tears as it is always sold out way before then. So my loyal customers have learnt - BUY AS SOON AS SAM ARRIVES, or be disappointed. And when I'm late I have queues of customers just waiting to take home my little treats before I can even unpack them.
What can I say... I never expected all this in my first month... Thanks to my loyal customers and expecially to the traders at Paddocks who support my hard work and efforts. And I cannot do all this without the love and support of my Husband - who by the way is my worse critic - And my kids who get excited at the site of a new batch of cupcakes.
So here is to the month of February... the romantic month. And at Sam's Cakes I am working hard on a valentines menu for Paddocks Market with romance and chocolate as the main theme... Watch this space for pics and updates...

Baking cakes is something I remember as far back as sitting at the kitchen counter while my Gran made her famous Chocolate Swiss roll. I used to help mix the ingredients and would eventually get to lick the bowl... Mmmmmmm. Always the best part. Today, I'm the baker and my 4 kids fight over who gets to lick the chocolate cake bowl. I think it was inevitable that i would end up behind my kitchen counter baking, as both my paternal and maternal Grandmothers were good bakers who prided themselves in good old fashioned homebaked cakes and savouries... Then again did people back in those days know anything else but home baked goodies. There was no supermarkets selling cakes or tarts like we have today. So Thanks to my Grans I have become a proud home baker. Using only the best ingredients, everything is made from scratch and with lots of LOVE.
